Blog To Blog or...Definitely BLOG!With so many wedding blogs out there dominating the world wide web…I must say…it’s mildly intimidating. I mean, there is literally a blog for EVERYTHING!! There are blogs for the broke-ass brides, the earth friendly weddings, the do-it-yourself (DIY) bride and even the plunge blog for the grooms! Where’s a new girl to fit in? How do I make a good impression? What do I write about?!?

Well, these questions have been on my mind for the past few weeks as I get started on this new blog of mine, my new company Dishy Events and as I begin my networking here in the St. Louis event planning market. So, I figured it couldn’t hurt to share a few observations I had, after spending dozens and dozens of hours on Google reader, on what I think makes for a highly readable wedding blog.

  • Pictures – Pictures are worth a thousand words! And on a blog, they are worth more like a million! Some of the most popular wedding blogs posts I’ve seen out there are completely picture-heavy, many posting color palettes, dress ideas and idea boards that are simply phenomenal! These blogs are nice because they not only provide inspiration but they encourage readers to think outside the box and play with colors – something not all of us are skilled at!
  • Real Wedding Stories – Everyone loves a good story. For that matter, everyone loves a true story. Weddings are like real-life fairy tales for girls, something most of us have dreamed of since we were old enough to dream. Having the opportunity to see so many pictures of real life weddings always warms my heart and clearly warms the hearts of blog readers across the world.
  • Helpful Tips/Hints – I think a key point here is that most wedding blog readers and writers are brides, soon-to-be brides, former brides or wedding planners. Who knows more about planning a wedding than someone who’s already planned one, two, three or dozens? These tips that we’ve all got stored in our heads need to be purged onto paper, online, and into the eyes of our blog readers. After all, helping brides (and grooms) plan their wedding is what it’s all about, right?  :-)

RSS1 To Blog or...Definitely BLOG!I’m sure my opinions will grow and change over time, but these are some of the big trends in wedding blogs I’ve seen in the past 3 weeks – it’s really only been 3 weeks! Amazing! I hope to provide lots of great advice and tips to brides over the coming years and while I get moving, check out some of my favorite blogs in my blogroll. And be sure to check out the top 100 wedding blogs from BrideTide! Cheers!
