1. 80s Flashback. If you lived through the 80s, you know that it was a memorable time, not only in fashion but for TV, music and ACCESSORIES! I first read about the 80s flashback party idea on Celebrations.com and let me tell you, they have some “totally awesome” cake, decoration and favor ideas! For cake – try making your own Pac Man or Strawberry Shortcake! For decor – think NEON colors and set out all your favorite old school toys. Did I hear My Little Pony, TMNT or He-Man??? Finally, the favors – seek out some neon jelly bracelets, 80s t-shirts or some always trendy leg warmers!
2. Era by Era. This party came from PartySpot.com and it is all about eating and drinking through the years of your life. They suggest setting up roughly 4-5 food stations and serving food from your childhood, teenage years, twenties and thirties. Maybe some mac and cheese for the childhood station, pizza for the teenage station, an easy pasta for the twenties followed by something a little more sophisticated for the thirties – maybe sushi! Drinks need to be categorized too – maybe some kool-aid, soda, cheap beer and wine!
3. Childhood Fun. I like this one from entertaining.suite101.com not only because it’s relatively easy to put together, but also because I think we’re all secretly children at heart! Try renting space at a local arcade, serving pizza and popcorn and let the childlike behavior proceed. Or you could take everyone to zoo, feed them and let them run wild like animals. And if you’re in St. Louis, like me, you’re lucky because they serve beer (for a price) at the zoo and it’s free to get in!
4. Casino Night. I had to throw a more grown up idea out there too. I’ve been to several casino themed parties and they’re usually fun because you can gamble all night, without losing your own money! PartySpot.com suggests renting poker tables or setting up card tables of your own, have some friends act as dealers and don’t forget the cocktails! For added incentive, get some really cool party gifts to hand out to the individuals with the most chips! This one is sure to entertain everyone!
5. Old Movie Themed Party. I can’t help it! I love the throw back party ideas and this one is awesome! Why not pick a movie from exactly 30 years ago and make that the focus of the night – Rocky, ET or even National Lampoons. Celebrations.com adds that guests can dress up like characters and you can even create a signature drink around the movie. I’m pretty sure I know a few people that wouldn’t mind dressing up like Cousin Eddie!
