Wish Upon a Wedding St. Louis Hosts Second Annual Blissful Wishes Ball

It’s that time of year again! You guessed it, gala time! Here in St. Louis we’re gearing up in a big way for what’s sure to be another AMAZING gala! This year’s theme is “Transformations” which means we expect to see a lot of alter egos and real life transformations going on. Taking place at the FABULOUS Coronado Ballroom in midtown St. Louis on November 20th, guests are in for a treat! From a thirteen piece band, to stunning decor and even a late night cupcake truck, this gala is sure to have it all!

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online via EventBrite – http://wuwgalasaintlouis.eventbrite.com/. Individual tickets are $100 with tables at $1,000.

We’re also seeking items for our silent and live auctions – anything from products, services and more importantly unique experiences! If you have something to donate please reach out to our fundraising chair for more details, stlouisfundraising@wishuponawedding.org.

It was a hot summer day with a 30% chance of rain, and thankfully for Carol and Jason the rain stayed away! It ended up being a beautiful day for an outdoor ceremony and Stephen Seward captured it all on film! I received a few photos from Stephen and I just had to share on the blog! Congratulations again to Carol and Jason, who are now living in their new home in Arkansas!

Amy & Monte: May 21, 2011

Normally this post wouldn’t be up so soon, but because of the amazing work of Kelly Park from Kelly Park Photography, the photos are in and ready to be shared with the blogospehere!

Amy and Monte (the Babingtons) met in college at Mizzou and found themselves in St. Louis not too long after graduation! Several years later, Monte proposed and they moved to NYC just a few weeks ago! So as you can imagine, they’ve been busy! I was fortunate enough to be a very big part of their wedding day and I wouldn’t change it for the world! Congrats to Amy and Monte who are enjoying the newly married life in Costa Rica right now! And now on to some photos!

Alrighty then! I finally got some photos from the infamous Dustin Steller from our October 9, 2010 wedding with Jen and Tim…and well I just had to share ASAP! Jenny & Ryan: A Quick Recap

Well we wrapped up our final Dishy wedding for 2010 last night and what a way to end the wedding season, with a BANG! Mr. and Mrs. Ryan and Jenny Kiernan are such an amazing couple and it shined through in everything about their wedding day. Both Mizzou grads, Jenny a cheerleader and Ryan a basketball player, they couldn’t be more of a match made in heaven! I was honored to be a part of their wedding day and even more impressed with the amount of thought they put into each and every detail. Between the dueling pianos and DJ mixes, the limbo and several dance offs, this was a wedding to remember!

Jen & Tim: A Quick Recap

So who could have guessed that it would be 88 degrees on October 9th in St. Louis!!? Well it was, and while the weather was somewhat of a shocker, Jen and Tim’s wedding day was fantastic! I met Jen in college and was super excited when she allowed my assistance on her wedding day! Her creativity shined through in everything about the day and I was so happy to be a part of it!

I wanted to share a few of my always fabulous (but not always in focus) snap shots from the wedding day! Of course, these will be blown away once I receive the AH-MAZING photos from Dustin Steller, a well-known Kansas City, MO wedding photographer, that made the drive for Jen and Tim’s wedding. But I’ll take my chances until then! P.S. When Dustin’s not shooting, he is fairly impressive on the dance floor! No joke!

Beth & Stephen: September 5, 2010

Two posts within two days?!? This is almost a Dishy first! But I just had to share photos from the AH-MAZING duo Mallory and Brian of Avia Photography from Beth and Stephen’s wedding this weekend! Why haven’t you heard of Avia Photography yet you ask? Well, it’s probably because they’re based in Columbia, Missouri!

Don’t fret though! There is good news for all you St. Louis brides out there…Mallory and Stephen TRAVEL! And trust me, it’s worth the additional mileage and hotel (if departing past 8:00pm) fees. Not only do they take fabulous photos, but they are a complete and utter pleasure to work with! Not to mention great dinner dates! And away we go…

Wedding Guest Hospitality Bags

You know what time it is, time to talk wedding guests! Everyone’s favorite subject! The reason I bring up this topic is because at some point during the preparation for your wedding, it’s pretty important to consider how many people on your list are actually coming from out of town! Now think about how many of those guests will be staying in a hotel. It’s probably a decent number right? And even though you’ve been kind enough to secure a discounted room rate at a fabulous hotel, it might also be nice to consider distributing the infamous hospitality bag!

This handy dandy hospitality bag/box is a great way to make your guests feel at right home, no matter how many miles they’ve traveled to be with you! Checking into a hotel room after a long trip and being handed a nicely made goodie bag is a great feeling!

Things you might consider including in your gift bag/box:

Bottled Water. This is a must! Most hotels charge for water and well tap water is just alright in most places, so tuck in a bottle or two to keep those thirsts quenched!
Snacks. Whether it be cookies, pretzels, candy or chips be sure to leave your guests a little something to nibble on while they wait or for after they’ve had a few drinks!
Directions. If you’re wedding ceremony location or reception location are a bit hard to find, include a map to help your guests get around. I’m sure they’ll thank you!
Itinerary. If you’re having a destination wedding or a jam-packed, event filled weekend, you might consider adding a schedule of events. No need for anyone to miss the fun!
Brochures/Local Information. I’m not talking any old brochures here, this is more about providing your guests with some ideas of what to do around town while they’re there. Brochures for a zoo, museum or other tour would be ideal! Also think restaurants!
Something Personal. Last year I went to a wedding where the bride and groom included two small bottles of appropriately named liquor, Jameson and (Captain) Morgan…hint they’re last name. Super cute!

While hospitality bags are something you can 100% do on your own, as with everything else, you can always hire someone to take care of it for you! Here in St. Louis, we have a fun new company called Goodies for Guests, specializing in custom hospitality boxes! These neat little boxes can come filled with just about anything your little heart can imagine…and maybe even some Mom’s Originals!

The Rise of the Photobooth

Until a few years ago, if someone had suggested you have a photobooth at your wedding reception, you probably would have laughed right in their face. And yet here we stand just a few years later where a photobooth has actually become quite a staple for all wedding receptions. With the increase in number of companies offering the service, a slew of new ideas on props for the booths and well just a crazy amount of fun, the photobooth has started to take over the wedding reception world! If it hasn’t in your town yet…just wait, it’ll be there soon, which means you have reason to be excited!

And if I must say so myself, the photobooth is one trend I FULLY support! While I may not be behind ALL of the prop ideas (i.e. those weird mustaches on a stick), I do think having a photobooth is a great way to get those candid, silly and ridiculously fun shots of your guests baring it all (and I don’t mean literally) in front of the camera.

If you’re in the St. Louis area and looking for a photobooth, you’re in luck because we have a plethora of different companies with various photobooth options, so be sure to check them out! Some are retro, some traditional and some even open for the room to see! Here is a list of some photobooth companies in St. Louis to get you started!

So if you want to guarantee a little extra fun on your wedding day, or just have a bunch of extra pictures, I say give it a shot. Several of my brides for this year are all doing photobooths and I am excited! I may even have to hop in for a picture or two myself!

So get in that booth, throw on a straw hat, a lei and some sunglasses…and SMILE! Cheers!
